Raspberry Pi RMO MPE Calculation for FCC Compliance

RF Exposure

This document details the Maximum Permissible Exposure (MPE) calculation for the Raspberry Pi RMO device, ensuring compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations regarding radiofrequency (RF) radiation exposure. The FCC mandates that calculated MPE values must remain below specified limits at a distance of 20 cm from the device, simulating typical user proximity.

The calculations cover the 2.4GHz and 5GHz operating bands utilized by the Raspberry Pi RMO. The document outlines the applicable FCC rule parts, including Part 1.1310 (Radiofrequency radiation exposure limits) and Part 2.1091(c) (Radiofrequency radiation exposure evaluation: mobile devices). The calculations employ the far-field power density equation, considering parameters such as power density (S), Effective Isotropically Radiated Power (EIRP), conducted transmitter power (P), antenna gain (G), and safe operating distance (R).

Separate calculations are provided for 2.4GHz Bluetooth (BDR/EDR worst case) and 2.4GHz/5GHz WLAN, each with specific transmitter frequency ranges, power levels, and antenna gains. The results demonstrate that the Raspberry Pi RMO, when equipped with antennas having maximum gains of 3.5dBi (2.4GHz) and 2.3dBi (5GHz), will not exceed the required 20cm RF exposure limits for General Population/Uncontrolled Exposure as defined by FCC Rule Part 1.1310.
